Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening Therapy

Plasma fibroblast skin tightening therapy is a non-invasive procedure designed to combat wrinkles, loss of collagen, and sagging skin, providing skin-lifting, skin-tightening, and rejuvenation benefits. Plasma fibroblast therapy targets fibroblasts. These are collagen- and protein-producing cells in the dermis, the layer of skin just below the outermost layer. Fibroblasts play a crucial role in facilitating skin wound healing, as well as maintaining skin firmness and elasticity.

Plasma fibroblast skin tightening therapy utilizes a pen-like device that emits a high-frequency electric current to targeted areas of the skin. The plasma tip doesn’t directly touch the skin, but instead releases a targeted current just above the skin along the wrinkle lines. The hot current creates small holes, or micro-injuries, in the skin’s layer. This process recreates collagen type I, the collagen we have in abundance when we’re younger. As we age, this is replaced by collagen type III, a loose and disorganized form of collagen.

The tip of the pen never touches the skin (and the needle-like attachment is a sterile, disposable, one-time use product). The pen is held above the skin, and a tiny plasma arc connects the tip of the device to the skin’s surface. Using plasma waves, the old collagen is removed by sublimation (evaporation), and fibroblasts are stimulated to produce new collagen.

The targeted skin contracts and is essentially eliminated without any cutting, resulting in the tightening and shrinking of the targeted area. This advanced procedure helps restore natural levels of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and fibronectin, essential for maintaining fresh, youthful skin. A series of tiny brown spots is strategically placed to attain the desired result. The skin around the dot tightens instantly, pulling the cells closer together.

Am I a good candidate for Plasma Fibroplasty?

The best candidates for this procedure are individuals with mild to moderate skin wrinkling concerns.

You shouldn’t receive plasma fibroblast therapy if you:

  • are breastfeeding
  • are pregnant
  • have an allergy to topical anesthetic preparations
  • have an infection at the treatment site
  • are using isotretinoin for wrinkles or acne
  • have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring
  • have anemia
  • have rare inherited illness called glucose-6-dehydroenase deficiency
  • have Methemoglobinemia (affects blood pigment levels)
  • have Atopic dermatitis

Or use the following medications:

  • Sulphonamides (a large group of synthetic bacteriostatic drugs that are effective in treating infections caused by many gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms. They are used in treating many urinary tract infections.)
  • Other local anesthetics
  • Mexiletine or amiodarone (treatment for uneven heartbeat)

If you have any concerns whatsoever, we encourage you to consult with a healthcare provider before the procedure to discuss potential concerns related to your overall health condition.

Procedure Overview – Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening Therapy

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

It is recommended that sun protection with an SPF of 30-50 be used daily for at least two weeks before the Fibroblast treatment(s). Skin care products with ingredients such as retinols, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), tretinoin, or any vitamin A derivative should be avoided. We recommend that you stay out of the sun, avoid tanning salons, and refrain from using self-tanning products for at least three weeks before your procedure. It is also advisable to refrain from taking NSAIDs (ibuprofen) for 7 days before your procedure.

Blood Thinning Medications & Product Use

Although blood thinning is not considered a contraindication for this procedure, it can impact the results. There are also “natural” blood thinners that you may be digesting, which can also impact the results of this procedure. We need the skin and body to be well hydrated with good oxygen flow.

We recommend you refrain from the following medications/substances for at least 3 days before your procedure:

  • Alcohol
  • Ibuprofen
  • Turmeric
  • Ginger
  • Cayenne peppers
  • Vitamin E
  • Garlic
  • Cassia cinnamon
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Grape seed extract

How do blood thinners impact fibroblast treatment?

When the blood is thinner, two things can happen: we may experience more bleeding because the skin becomes more sensitive and is therefore prone to bruising. This entire procedure centers around plasma. We need the skin and body to be well hydrated with good oxygen flow. If you have elevated levels of blood thinners in your system, we may not achieve a significant plasma lift (plasma coagulation) in the skin or the carbon crust (dot), which can lead to suboptimal results.

Pre-Treatment Highlights:

  • Use sunscreen for 2 weeks
  • Avoid skincare treatments
  • Stay out of the sun 2 weeks prior
  • Do not use tanning beds before treatment
  • Avoid blood-thinning substances for at least 3 days

Before your service, Bombesque will mail you the following items:

  • Pre-treatment & Aftercare Instructions
  • Pre-treatment Products: Numbing Cream, Face Mask, Vinyl Gloves

Day of Treatment:

On the treatment day, it is recommended that no make-up is worn on the treatment area. You may take an antihistamine 30 minutes before your appointment to help with swelling and for 2-3 days following the appointment.

While the procedure may vary slightly based on where you’re having the treatment, the basic steps typically include:

  • Cleansing the skin and applying a topical anesthetic (numbing) cream. You may need to wait about 30 minutes for the numbing cream to take effect.
    • Numbing cream should not be used if you are allergic to any of the following ingredients:
      • Lidocaine
      • Tetracaine
      • Prilocaine
      • Polyoxymethylene hydrogenated castor oil
      • Carboner 974P
      • Sodium hydroxide
      • Purified water
    • Numbing Instructions: Self-Application
      • If Bombesque has provided you with a numbing cream kit to apply to yourself before your appointment, please follow the instructions below.
      • Your numbing cream kit will include the following items:
        • Vinyl Gloves
        • Numbing Cream (contains Lidocaine/Tetracaine)
        • Face Guard and/or Adhesive Saran Wrap (for body parts other than face)
      • Instructions
        • Put on vinyl gloves. When applying the numbing cream to the treated areas, please use the vinyl gloves included in your kit to prevent the spread of bacteria from your hands to your face or other treated areas.
        • Once the numbing cream has been applied, place the face guard or Saran wrap over the numbing area being treated, and I’ll take over from there.
      • When the treatment area is sufficiently numb, the session begins with multiple connections of the fibroblast tip, spaced closely together. You may feel some heat in the treatment area, which may be uncomfortable and slightly irritating.
      • Treatment time is typically between 10 and 40 minutes per area, depending on the size of the area.

Recovery:

Immediately after treatment, the area may appear red and mildly swollen, with visible trim carbon crusts (spots). You may experience a sensation like a sunburn, which will likely last a few hours. Swelling may intensify over the next few hours, especially when the eyes are treated, and may last 2-3 days.

The carbon crusts will lift within 5-12 days, depending on the individual and the area treated. Results gradually improve over the course of the following eight weeks, and as your skin heals, it should appear tighter and firmer.

Generally, the results of plasma fibroblast therapy are excellent. However, a perfect result is not a realistic expectation. Most clients see the positive effects of treatment immediately after the first treatment, but it typically takes eight weeks to see the full results of the procedure.

For some, an additional treatment may be necessary after eight weeks to achieve maximum results. Additionally, lifestyle factors can also contribute to achieving lasting results. Some of these include smoking, alcohol consumption, prolonged sun exposure, and other factors that increase skin aging.

Potential Side Effects: We encourage you to discuss any concerns you may have with a medical practitioner.

  • redness
  • swelling
  • mild hypopigmentation (light spots)
  • mild hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
  • skin peeling and crusting

Aftercare Instructions:

Following treatment, we will provide you with thorough aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results.

Swelling, scabs and redness are part of normal skin renewal. The effects typically last from 7 to 20 days, depending on the treatment administered.

It is recommended:

  • To wash the treated area with Skin Script Green Tree Citrus Cleanser, both in the morning and in the evening.
  • To avoid exposure to sunlight and cover the treated area with 50+ SPF foundation until the redness disappears to avoid hyperchromia (darker spots).
  • Please do not remove the crusts for any reason, as they must fall independently to avoid depressions and irregularities on the skin.

In darker-skinned clients, such discolorations are more likely to occur.  In those with fair or sensitive skin, the redness may persist longer.

Aftercare Protocol:

Day 1-2:

  • CONC-HEALER Healing Camouflage Concealer
  • Sheer Protection SPF 30
  • Colloidal Silver
  • Do not wash your face on day 1 or day 2

Day 3 – Until all scabs fall off

  • You must allow the scabs to heal and fall off naturally.
    • DO NOT SCRATCH YOUR FACE OR PICK AT YOUR SCABS
    • If itchy, call Bridgey
  • After 48 hours, you can gently wash your face with Green Tree Cleanser
  • CONC-HEALER Healing Camouflage Concealer
  • Sheer Protection SPF 30
  • Colloidal Silver
  • Aquafor

After Scabs Fall Off:

  • Gently wash your face with Green Tree Cleanser

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments required will vary according to the area being treated, skin laxity, the desired degree of correction, and the individual’s response to the treatment. Most patients experience immediate results and will continue to improve over the following eight weeks.

Further treatments can be carried out to achieve better results, but appointments must be spaced at least 8-12 weeks apart per area. Before deciding that a second session in the same area is necessary to achieve better tightening results, ensure that at least two months have passed, as it takes that long to achieve accurate results.

"It's been years since I've left a salon feeling genuinely satisfied with my hair color."

Jessica Dohrmann
It's been years since I've left a salon feeling genuinely satisfied with my hair color. I was so excited when Bridgette turned my chair to show me the final result, it was better than I had ever expected! I'm not the easiest client either, I didn't bring a picture like she had asked, I sometimes question what I am even asking for, but Bridgette listened to me through a mess of words and doubt and somehow knew exactly what I wanted. Finally, I am happy with my hair and I didn't realize until now how good that feels. I will definitely be going back and will be recommending her to everyone. It is so nice to have found someone local here in Queen Creek too.
